Swedish Chocolate Balls (Chokladbollar)

A classic Swedish no-bake treat made with oats and cocoa, rolled in crunchy pearl sugar. Perfect for fika or as an easy make-ahead sweet bite.

Ingredients

Serves: 18–20 chocolate balls

Chocolate balls

  • 150 g unsalted butter, softened
  • 135 g granulated sugar
  • 3 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp vanilla sugar (or vanilla extract)
  • 2 tbsp cold coffee
  • 4 dl rolled oats

Coating

  • 1 dl pearl sugar

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix softened butter, sugar, cocoa powder, vanilla sugar, and cold coffee until smooth.
  2. Add the rolled oats and stir until a thick, even mixture forms.
  3. Roll the mixture into small balls, about 2–3 cm wide.
  4. Pour pearl sugar onto a plate and roll each ball until evenly coated.

Notes & Pro Tips

  • For a richer flavor, use strong brewed coffee — this is common in Swedish versions
  • You can also roll them in shredded coconut, but pearl sugar gives the classic festive crunch
