Easy Semlor (Swedish Cream Buns)

Soft buns filled with a rich almond filling, topped with billowy whipped cream and finished with a dusting of powdered sugar – semlor are one of Sweden’s most beloved pastries. This shortcut version uses store-bought buns and almond paste, making it easy to recreate the classic treat at home in just minutes.

Ingredients

Serves 6

Semlor

  • 6 semla buns
  • 150 g almond paste
  • ½ dl milk
  • 3 dl heavy whipping cream
  • Powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. Cut the tops off the semla buns and set them aside.
  2. Scoop out a small amount of the soft bread from the center of each bun.
  3. Crumble the bread into a bowl and mix it with the almond paste.
  4. Add the milk a little at a time and stir until you have a smooth, creamy filling.
  5. Divide the almond filling between the buns.
  6. Whip the cream until soft peaks form.
  7. Pipe or spoon the whipped cream on top of the almond filling.
  8. Place the bun tops back on.
  9. Dust generously with powdered sugar before serving.
