Sticky Oven-Baked Spareribs

Tender, juicy spareribs coated in a sweet and savory glaze, then baked until beautifully caramelized. Served with creamy coleslaw, this easy recipe delivers classic comfort food with minimal effort.

Spareribs

  • 1 kg spareribs
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika

Glaze

  • ½ dl sweet chili sauce
  • ½ dl BBQ sauce
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce

To Serve

  • Coleslaw

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 150°C (300°F).
  2. Pat the ribs dry and rub with olive oil, salt, pepper, garlic powder and smoked paprika.
  3. Place the ribs on a baking tray and cover tightly with foil.
  4. Bake for 2–2½ hours, or until the meat is tender.
  5. Meanwhile, whisk together the sweet chili sauce, BBQ sauce, honey, and soy sauce.
  6. Remove the foil and brush the ribs generously with the glaze.
  7. Increase the oven temperature to 225°C (435°F).
  8. Bake for another 10–15 minutes, brushing with additional glaze once or twice, until sticky and caramelized.
  9. Let the ribs rest for 5 minutes before serving.
  10. Serve with coleslaw.

Notes & Pro Tips

  • For extra caramelization, finish the ribs under the broiler for 2–3 minutes.
  • Baby back ribs can be used instead of spareribs.
  • The glaze can be adjusted with extra sweet chili sauce for a sweeter finish or more soy sauce for a deeper savory flavor.
  • Leftovers can be reheated in the oven at 175°C (350°F).
