Oshi Sushi (Pressed Sushi Base Method)

Pressed sushi rice formed into clean, compact blocks and served fresh with layered or topped ingredients. A foundational method for modern sushi-style presentations.

Ingredients

Serves 4–6

Instructions

  1. Prepare sushi rice using Perfect Sushi Rice (Base Method).
  2. While still warm, transfer the rice into a mold or tray.
  3. Press firmly and evenly to create a compact layer (approx. 2–3 cm thick).
  4. Apply light, even pressure to compress the rice.
  5. Let rest briefly to set the structure.
  6. Cut into clean, even rectangles using a sharp knife.
  7. Serve immediately or slightly warm with desired toppings or layers.

Notes & Pro Tips

  • Best texture is achieved when served slightly warm
  • Even pressure = clean slicing
  • Do not refrigerate before serving
  • Use a sharp, slightly damp knife for clean, precise cuts
  • Avoid over-pressing, as it can make the rice too dense
